If they are alive
If your father or your mother gets and Aliya to the Torah stand up and remind standing until they finish their Aliya"
Ask your father or your mother to bless you before Kiddush (Friday night) and kiss their hands after they do that.
Have set places in your home and don’t seat in your parents’ places.
Never call your parents by their first name even if they are not present, even if you talk about them to somebody else, even if they passed away!
Call your parents at least once a week, if not more often. Try to call them always at the same time!
Ask your father or mother if they need something – a glass of water, a coffee, etc.
If you need to talk to your parents don’t shout to them, rather go beside them and speak quietly.
Ask for their advice and follow it!
If they passed away
Visit their gravestones twice a year (before the High Holy days and on their Yartzeit)
On their Yartzeits:
Gather a Minyian to say Kaddish (on the same day)
Light a candle
Fast (yes, fast!)
Give charity in their memory!
Organized a Study Session
Work on your family tree!
Work on a family album to leave to your children
Every time you mention them or refer to them, add the words "May he/she rest in peace"
Keep al least some of their belongings to pass to your children.
Have pictures of your parents displayed in your home!
Talk about them often!
Give your children their names or insist that your children will give their children your parent’s names.
Pay for a memorial plaque!
Put their names to a Torah cover, a Bimah Cover, etc.
